Today was the start of our journey to the southwest. We headed out bright and early. We traveled through Michigan, down to Toledo, Ohio over to Lafayette, Indiana. Lafayette is home to Purdue University and sits on the Wabash River. Several Native American Tribes settled in the Lafayette area before white settlers came to Indiana. We had a picnic lunch at Armstrong Park named after Neil Armstrong the first astronaut to walk on the moon, he attended college at Purdue. Information about - Armstrong park It was raining when we left Lafayette and headed southwest to Springfield, Illinois. Springfield is the capital of Illinois and the "Land of Lincoln". Lincoln came to Springfield to practice law in 1837, would marry and eventually be elected President of the United States.
